CDC in a recent email update to Civil Surgeons, has sent guidance that contradicts instructions on the I-693 form on how to properly fill out the TB classification section. The guidance suggests to select a TB Classification even if chest x-ray was not performed (directly contradicting the instructions on the form).
The same guidance was also present in a recent webinar presented by the CDC. You can skip to the 19:20 (19 minute and 20 second) mark in the video of webinar to visually see the guidance provided.
As of June 5th 2026, this guidance has not been published on the USCIS website on the appropriate manuals. Please note that MedFiller cannot comment whether you should follow the advice of CDC OR the instructions printed directly on the form published by USCIS.

Tuberculosis Classification Reminder
“When completing Form I-693, please select a TB classification for every applicant in the “TB Classification/Findings” section, even if a chest X-ray was not performed. The instruction on page 7 indicating that a classification should only be selected when a chest X-ray has been performed is incorrect. Do not leave this section blank. For applicants with no evidence of Class A or Class B tuberculosis, select “No Class A or B TB.”
